BURNOUT
ABSTRACT:
Burnout is a syndrome seen as a process consisting of three dimensions (professional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal accomplishment). Changes in its original conception - the emphasis was on health professionals, education and personal work - occurred over the years so that today it is understood that the syndrome can occur in individuals of any occupation, including during the pre-professional. The medical profession has a high index of individuals with some level of burnout, due to both the characteristics of this activity and the recent changes in medical practice. Research on this syndrome are pretty slim, taking into account the importance of early diagnosis to prevent the depersonalization of the doctor-patient relationship. Data were collected from medical students and teachers inside the FM-UFAM by use of two self-reported questionnaires (MBI-SS and MBI-HSS), in order to analyze the prevalence of the syndrome in populations cited. The sample was 30 students (n = 30), in which 80% are female (n = 24) and 20% male (n = 6). The results obtained with regard to degree of burnout do not indicate the presence of the syndrome. However, according to the procedural model of Maslach Burnout (1976), Emotional Exhaustion is the first dimension to emerge, and this, in this group, shows index medium / high, which may be a possible indicator of burnout in the future.
